The Scouts and Post members had a blast.
Thanks mostly to our Adjutant, Lynn Moore, Post 1207 donated more children’s books to the Retired Men’s Club book drive than anyone in the state.
I hope the festivities find you surrounded by friends and family. Thanksgiving is a day of gratitude, and today and every day, we’re most thankful for you: our amazing members! Thank you for your support of Post 1207 and for making this year a great one.
The economy may be in a struggle right now, the nation may be divided, but we do know one thing: “Gratitude is a currency that we can mint for ourselves and spend without fear of bankruptcy.” -Fred De Witt Van Amburgh. So, on that note, and on this Thanksgiving, we are shelling out gratitude for members like you like there’s no tomorrow. Enjoy your day and mint some of your own gratitude to pass along!
Of course, many of our members no longer have family at home and that is where the Post comes in. Remember to “Be the One,” for all the Veterans in your life. Many Veterans struggle this time of year. If that’s you, we are your family and friends. Come down and visit with us.
We have several events planned at the Post that will give you an excuse to get out of the house and have a little fun. Events like the Children’s Christmas Party, a Breakfast, the Post Scholarship Dinner, 2 Fish Fries, an AUX Bake Sale, and a New Year’s Eve Party. Why would you stay home?
We are also looking for people who would like to prepare lunch for the Post. Tammy is interviewing prospective restauranters who would like to see if they got what it takes before investing in their own building, etc.
If you haven’t paid your dues for 2025, yes, I have to say this. Remember, your membership expires at midnight December 31st. Hurry up and renew, we need you.
The Minutes from last night’s meeting are available in the office by appointment to any Legion member in good standing.
Also, at the E-Board meeting, the Board voted to donate to help a 35 year member with some of the expenses to bury their son and we voted to donate as a Post to the National Disaster Relief Fund for the American Legion to be used to help members who were put out of their homes by the back-to-back hurricanes.
Last night the membership also approved Bylaws changes, the current Bylaws can be downloaded here.
Please attend our monthly meetings if you can, your input is important to us.
The three young ladies that the Auxiliary sent to Girl’s State to relate how much they learned from the experience, how much they enjoyed it, and how much they appreciate the opportunity.
During the General Meeting we will be voting on a proposed change to the Post 1207 Bylaws.
The Paragraph in question is:
Section 5. No elected member of the Executive Committee may also serve as an employee of the Post except by approval of two thirds of the Post Membership Meeting immediately following said election. Although they may draw a stipend or reimbursement for expenditures made on behalf of the Post with the approval of the Post Manager.
Basically one of the members was concerned about perhaps paying an Adjutant. But, if a bartender wants to run for Jr Vice, for example, the Membership needs to know of a potential conflict of interest and this will be accomplished by two-thirds acknowledging the conflict. In such a case the Officer would be expected to recuse himself from any decisions of the Board related to salaries, bonuses, etc.
Don’t forget to check your calendars because we have many exciting events coming up, including our Annual Membership Dinner on October 19th. A FREE Porkchop Dinner for everyone who has paid their 2025 dues by that date.Â
As always, our Post exists to serve the needs of you, our member. Let us know if there is some way we can help you make the most of your membership.
